Vantablack is the brand name for a substance developed by British scientists at the Surrey NanoSystems Lab and released in 2014. It is a class of super-black coatings with total hemispherical reflectance (THR) below 1.5% in the visible spectrum. What makes the material special is that it absorbs 99.965% of all visible light. Simply stated it is the darkest material on Earth making it ideal for many scientific uses such as lens housings, optical assemblies, sensors and scientific equipment.
While it holds the Guinness Book of World’s Records title for the darkest man-made material, it is rumored to have been found in the human body covering the hearts of most politicians and the brains of people who choose to move to Texas and Florida.
