“Then You Will Know the Truth…”

01.11.2023 by Fred Berman //

…and the Truth Will Set You Free.” – John 8:32

Truth is all we want from our government in Washington, DC and Palm Beach, FL.  But the truth would set no one free.  In fact, it would most likely result in eons of jail time.
I am so hoping the truth comes out.

January 10, 1901: The Day the Ozone Layer Died!

01.10.2023 by Fred Berman //

On January 10, 1901, a drilling derrick at Spindletop Hill near Beaumont, Texas produced an enormous gusher of crude oil, coating the landscape for hundreds of feet and signaling the start of the American oil industry.  Petroleum, which until that time had been used in the U.S. primarily as a lubricant and in kerosene for lamps, would become the main fuel source for new inventions such as cars and airplanes; coal-powered forms of transportation including ships and trains would also convert to the liquid fuel.  On the negative side it led to the depletion of the ozone layer and the planet’s climate nightmare.  It also gave Texas worldwide exposure and gifted us the following:

  • Arguably the worst current U.S. Senator and wimpiest sub-human being on the planet.
  • The mystery of “Who shot J.R.”
  • A “Gun Nut” Governor who thinks he’s in 1836.
  • The greatest Rapper of all-time: Vanilla Ice!
  • The perfect state to trade to Mexico for a Churro recipe.
  • The state everyone should want to visit…never.

Notable Exceptions:  Visiting my Granddaughter Emily in Cypress, Tony Scales in San Antonio or Vera’s Backyard Barbecue in Brownsville.

Nuubu – The Japanese Way to Remove Body Toxins. And if You Believe That…

01.09.2023 by Fred Berman //

NUUBU feet patches are special patches that are made from various herbs a century-old recipe for a treatment that the Japanese believed would stabilize blood flow in the feet and help prevent the number of harmful diseases with proper therapy on the feet.  I saw the ad on the internet at Consumerbags so it must be true!

You just wear these adhesive pads on your feet and it draws harmful toxins from your body and pictures of dead presidents from your wallet.

(Not to be confused with Nobu the incredibly expensive restaurants where Robert De Niro is one of the founding partners.  Both will take a chunk out of your wallet but at least with the restaurant you will get tasty dead fish and not just dead skin on your feet.

Walk-In Tubs: Help for the Elderly or Sinister Bathroom Fixture?

01.06.2023 by Fred Berman //

I have always been a shower guy, but as the bones are getting creaky I thought an occasional bath might be soothing.  Before incurring the expense of installing a walk-in tub, one that has a door in it so you don’t need to climb over the side, we spent the night at our friend’s home as they have a walk-in bathtub in their guest room.  It was not the pleasurable experience I had anticipated.

If you ever get a walk-in installed or have occasion to use one, let me give you a small tip; fill the tub with water AFTER you get in.

Wait for it…

The Golden Gate Bridge is 90 Years Old Today…Or Is It?

01.05.2023 by Fred Berman //

On January 5, 1933, construction commenced on the Golden Gate Bridge as workers began excavating 3.25 million cubic feet of dirt for the structure’s huge anchorages.

But was that its birthday?  Is this the day we should be celebrating this great architectural achievement?  Or should it be when it is opened to the world?  The actual opening date was May 27, 1937.  We celebrate the moment a child comes into the world, not the moment of conception even though it may well have been the result of a celebration, perhaps including alcohol.

For those who may think this may be a thinly-veiled metaphor for a moral discussion on abortion, you are wrong.  The absolute last thing I would want to do is impose my values on others or interfere with a woman’s, or anyone’s, right to choose what they do with their own body.

We are still in America, right?

Beating the “January Blues!”

01.04.2023 by Fred Berman //

The end of the winter holiday season often brings the “January Blues” — most notably in chilly climates, as January and February tend to be the coldest months of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. Even if you are still feeling a little holiday buzz due to celebrations and perhaps some new gifts, it’s not a bad idea to prepare for the sadness that can accompany short days and cool temperatures. Last year Vogue, a publication on everyone’s nightstand I’m sure, published a list of 20 ways to beat the blues that included some mind-blowing outside-the-box ideas. Here’s just a few of them:

  • Breathe in Joy
  • Be still (can you do both at the same time?)
  • Relax
  • Read
  • Reward Yourself
  • Blah, blah, blah.

Two of their ideas did make a lot of sense to me: Stop Worrying and Exercise.  I think I can help.  If you feel like you are sinking into self-wallowing listen up:
“Quit your whining you self-absorbed narcissist and get with the program!  You got a lot going for you and no reason to dine alone at the “Pity Party, table for one!”  Get out of bed, drop and give me twenty, run 10 laps around the track and get on with your life!”

If that doesn’t work use another of their suggestions: Seek Professional Help.  And by that I mean, “Call me.”

2023: The Year of Action

01.02.2023 by Fred Berman //

I have made the irrevocable decision today, actually yesterday, to make 2023 a year of action!  By that I mean I am going to “Go for it!”  From now on when I get an idea I will immediately take action.  If I want something I’ll get it!  If there is something I want to do, I will do it without overthinking or making a pros and cons list.  I am going to just do it, take the bull by the horns, get down and not be afraid to get my hands dirty…maybe?

It sounds like a plan I can get behind…perhaps.
