What is the Significance of a Red String Bracelet?

11.30.2022 by Fred Berman //

Madonna wears one and her love of Kabbalah is well documented.   If you visit The Western Wall in Jerusalem you will most likely be approached to buy one.  Rooted in Jewish mysticism some believe you tie one around your left wrist to ward off evil spirits.  Another tradition says a single women should wear it until it falls off. She will then meet the man she is going to marry.

If marriage is your goal I think rather than wearing a red string on your wrist, try donning a red string bikini.  That will speed the process.

I Received an Invitation to Join “The Surrender Summit”

11.29.2022 by Fred Berman //

Like you, when I read the first sentence I assume it was an instructional seminar on how to be French.  But alas, no.   In our modern culture Surrender has come to mean giving up, conceding, or caving in.

“In actuality, surrender is one of the most empowering acts of sovereignty you can engage. Surrender is a signal to the Universe that you’re ready to dismantle the walls of limitation that keep you in a box. Surrender says “I open myself to and trust in the magic that is Life; more than my mind could ever “plan” for; more than you can even imagine. “

It sounds interesting.  I might even sign up for the on-line webinar, depending on how much of my hard earned cash they want me to surrender.

Drones Might Help Search and Rescue Operations in Remote Welsh Mountains

11.28.2022 by Fred Berman //

In Snowdonia National Park, Wales, a drone with mobile connectivity would be a powerful tool for the search and rescue teams to understand and assess a situation immediately, especially around the areas where campers go skinny-dipping in natural springs.

Whew, that’s a load off.  I know I’ll sleep better tonight!

November 27th, A Day Tiger Woods Would Like to Forget

11.27.2022 by Fred Berman //

This day in 2009 Tiger Woods crashed his SUV into a fire hydrant and then a neighbor’s tree outside his home in Windermere setting off a chain of events that culminated in, among other things:
     1. Divorce with a $100+ Million dollar settlement.
     2. Loss of valuable endorsements.
     3. A bad streak on the PGA Tour.
     4.  Cuts and Bruises.

He was then spotted at a sex-addiction rehab clinic in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.  So it wasn’t all bad.  I hear those places are wild!

“Smell Better Naked…

11.25.2022 by Fred Berman //

…with the world’s first aluminum-free whole body deodorant.”

This is the subject line of a spate of dozens of emails touting a product called LUME.  This product claims it was developed by a doctor, clinically proven to prevent odor for 72 hours and is a skin-safe PH balanced formula.
I do not claim to have a medical degree but I have developed a formula to do the same thing at about 0ne-tenth the cost of Lume.  It’s called “Regular Showers” and requires only plain soap and water.

Yes, you are correct.  I may be a genius.

It’s Thanksgiving! Remember Squanto This Year

11.24.2022 by Fred Berman //

The common story of America’s first Thanksgiving includes how a Native American man named Squanto, shortened from Tisquantum, showed the Pilgrims how to get food after they landed in Massachusetts, on the Mayflower in 1620.  It is widely believed without his help they would not have survived the winter.

Little is known for certain but he was thought to have been captured by Captain George Weymouth, who had been commissioned by the Plymouth Company to explore the coast of Maine and Massachusetts.  Weymouth thought his financial backers in Britain might want to see some Indians.  Squanto, then sold into slavery became fluent in English, escaped and returned home in 1619.  He returned to find his entire Tribe dead from smallpox; another gift from the settlers.

While a hero to the settlers he came to be reviled by all indigenous people because he brokered terrible treaties with the settlers that led to them being chased from their homeland.  Missed this part in your history class?  Don’t even get me started on slavery.

Water under the bridge, right?  Happy Thanksgiving.  Enjoy your Turkey!

The Princess of Wales Wears a Tiara! Slow News Day, Perhaps?

11.23.2022 by Fred Berman //

It was reported that future Queen of England and current Princess of Wales and Cornwall, nee Kate Middleton, wore a tiara today! (I’ll pause here to give you a chance to catch your breath).  This was the first time she wore one in nearly three years; the occasion being a state banquet at Buckingham Palace as King Charles III welcomed the President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, to the U.K   In addition the scoop blew the lid off Royal Accessorizing by noting she also sported a pair of earrings once worn by Princess Diana!

Pictures are available on People Royals website but may carry a warning regarding the disturbing nature of the photos. Due to their sensitive subject matter, viewing of the images should be done at one’s own risk and only by those people so totally bereft of purpose they have absolutely nothing better to do with their lives.

A Memory: Paul Simon’s Graceland Concert in Zimbabwe 1987

11.21.2022 by Fred Berman //

Back in the Early 1990’s I owned a short-lived piece of equipment called a Laser Disc Player.  The quality of sound and picture was amazing but alas the large discs soon replaced by the CD and went the way of vinyl.  But during its brief existence I watched my favorite concert on disc, Paul Simon’s “Graceland Concert” more than a hundred times.  Paul Simon violated a UN cultural boycott to let music take center stage.  The group including Hugh Masekela, Miriam Makeba and Ladysmith Black Mambazo gave us a few hours of musical escape.  Even protest songs like “Bring Back Nelson Mandela” combined hope and melody to lift the soul, not crush it.
It was a moment in time when hate and fear gave way to miraculous music and pure joy as the multi-raced crowd sang and danced and cheered together.

So if you ever tire of listening to politicians fear-mongering, calling each other names, lying about everything, banning books, infringing on your religious freedom and lining their pockets with your taxes while pretending to give a rat’s ass about you, hop on You Tube or pick up DVD and experience a moment of joy, something we could feel all the time if we were just not so afraid.
